## Overview

<PlanAvailability plans="Business" />

Your team's engagement policy determines which accounts you can work in Unify.
It uses account ownership and your team's prospecting criteria to decide whether
you can take ownership of a company or contact its people.

These are two separate permissions. Claiming assigns an account to you and adds
it to your book of business. Engagement includes creating tasks, enrolling people
in sequences, and making outbound calls. Your team may let you contact an account
without claiming it, require you to claim it first, or restrict both actions.

## Review your team's rules

Open your [book of business](https://app.unifygtm.com/dashboard/book-of-business)
and click **What accounts can I work?** The summary shows your policy's name,
the ownership field that defines your book, and the rules for each group of
accounts:

| Accounts | How the policy treats them |
| - | - |
| Your book | Companies assigned to you through your team's ownership field. Policy exclusions can still restrict these accounts. |
| Another rep's book | Companies assigned to another rep on your policy. Your team can block outreach or allow it with a warning. |
| Other accounts in CRM | Companies outside the books of your policy's members. Your team's criteria determine which are available to claim or contact. |
| Not in CRM | New companies that follow your team's separate rules for prospecting beyond the CRM. |

Click **Next** to review examples of the messages you will see while working,
then review the exclusions that apply to your team. Each exclusion lists its
behavior separately for claiming and engagement.

## Check a specific account

Open a company to see its engagement status near the company name. For example,
a company may belong to another rep or match an exclusion for existing customers.
When **Explain** appears beside a restriction, click it to open a chat explaining
why the restriction applies to that company.

An exclusion can apply even when an account belongs to you or otherwise matches
your team's prospecting criteria. For example, a policy might allow you to work
companies in your territory while blocking outreach to existing customers within
that territory. When several rules apply, the most restrictive rule determines
whether you can complete the action.

## Respond to a restriction

Unify checks the action you are taking and shows any restriction before you
continue. Use the reason shown to decide what to do next.

| Restriction | What to do |
| - | - |
| Claim first | Take ownership before starting outreach. If claiming is unavailable, ask your administrator to check the account's eligibility and your CRM user mapping. |
| Warning | Review the reason before confirming that you want to continue. |
| Blocked | Ask your manager to review the account's ownership or the rule that applies. |
| Policy or CRM configuration unavailable | Ask your administrator to resolve the configuration issue so Unify can check the account. |

When asking for help, share the company, the action you were trying to take, and
the restriction shown. Your administrator can review the team's
[engagement policy](/reference/engagement-policies/engagement-policies) and its
ownership field, eligibility criteria, and exclusions.
