## Overview

A list is a collection of companies or people that you assemble for a task, such
as preparing event follow-up or organizing accounts for a campaign. You can add
records individually, collect existing records that match filters, or upload a
CSV. Share the list with teammates when you want to work from the same set of
records.

Each list contains either companies or people. A company list helps you organize
accounts; a people list supports contact-level work such as
[sequence enrollment](/reference/sequences/enrollments).

## Create a list

For prospect research in chat, follow [build with chat](/reference/lists/build-with-chat).
When working with records already in Unify or a spreadsheet, choose a method below.

| Method | When to use it |
| - | - |
| Empty list | You want to select records as you research them. |
| Define criteria | You want to collect existing records that match conditions. |
| Upload CSV | You have a spreadsheet of accounts or contacts to bring into Unify. |

Creating a list from criteria adds the records that match when the operation
runs. Later additions and removals are separate actions. For a group whose
membership follows changing conditions, use an
[audience](/reference/lists/create-an-audience).

For a spreadsheet, choose **Upload CSV** when creating the list and follow
[import data](/reference/lists/import-data). Use the paths below to work with
records already in Unify.

  <Tab title="From existing records">
    <Steps>
      <Step title="Start a new list">
        In the **Leads** menu, open [Lists](https://app.unifygtm.com/dashboard/lists), click
        **New list**, and choose **Define criteria**.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Name and share the list">
        Give the list a name that describes its purpose. Choose who can view or
        edit it. Use **Invite only** for a list you will share with selected
        teammates, or allow everyone in your workspace to view or edit it.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Choose the records">
        Select companies or people and add conditions. For example, you might
        collect companies in a target industry or people who match one of your
        team's personas.

        Combine conditions with **And** when every condition must match, or
        **Or** when any condition can match. Review the preview as you refine
        the criteria. See [filter builder](/reference/filter-builder) for grouped
        conditions and related-record filters.

        Enabled exclusions remove matching records from the preview and the
        list you create. Review **Modify exclusions** under **Advanced** if
        expected records are missing.

      <Step title="Create the list">
        Click **Create list**. Unify adds matching records in the background.
        Open the list to review the results and use its **Activity** tab to

        it will contain companies or people, then click **Create list**.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Add your first records">
        In the list, open **Add records** and search for companies or people.
        Select the records and click **Add to list**. You can also add a record
        from its actions menu while reviewing it elsewhere in Unify.

## Find records within a list

Open the list and use search to find a particular company or person. Click
**Add filter** to narrow the table using record details, then use **Columns** to
choose the information you want to compare. The
[filter builder guide](/reference/filter-builder) explains conditions and groups.
Filtering changes the records shown
in the table; the list keeps its membership until you add or remove records.

Recently added records can take a few minutes to appear in filtered or searched
results. Refresh the list to check for updated results.

## Update the list

You need Editor access to add or remove records from a shared list. Ask its owner
for access if the list is marked **View only**.

### Add records

Open **Add records** to search for existing companies or people, or choose
**Upload CSV** to add records from a file. A company list accepts companies and
a people list accepts people.

You can also add a record to a list from the record's actions menu. This lets you
build a collection while reviewing accounts elsewhere in Unify.

### Remove records

Select the rows you want to remove and click **Remove from list**. This removes
their membership in this list. Their company or person records remain available
in your workspace.

## Enroll people in a sequence

You can enroll up to 5,000 people at a time. When you select all matching
records, review the selected count before taking action. Search and filters
determine which records are included in that selection.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Select the people">
    Select the rows you want to enroll, then click **Add to sequence**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review engagement eligibility">
    If your workspace uses an engagement policy, review which people are
    eligible for outreach before continuing.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose the sequence and sender">
    Choose **Enroll in same sequence**, then select a published sequence and
    its sending mailbox or mailbox group. You can also choose
    **Enroll based on persona** to route different personas to different
    sequences.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review and enroll">
    Continue through the enrollment review and check any eligibility or
    existing-enrollment conflicts before confirming **Add to sequence**.

    For an agentic sequence, **Add with chat** takes you to the draft review
    workflow. Follow the
    [agentic sequence guide](/reference/sequences/agentic-sequences) to review
    and approve the generated drafts.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Open the list's activity to review the results, then use the
[sequence enrollment guide](/reference/sequences/enrollments) to follow each
person's progress.

## Share and organize

Open the list's options menu and choose **Share** to control access:

| Setting | Access |
| - | - |
| Invite only | Give selected teammates Viewer or Editor access. |
| Anyone can view | Everyone in the workspace can view the list. |
| Anyone can edit | Everyone in the workspace can view and edit the list. |

Workspace administrators can view and manage all lists.

Use **Edit** to rename the list. To organize it in a folder, choose **Move to**.

When deleting a list, review any plays that use it. Update or pause those plays
before removing the list they depend on.

## Download the records

Click **Download list** to export a CSV. The export uses the list's current search
and filters, so clear them first if you want to download the whole list.

## Review activity

Open **Activity** to see additions, removals, uploads, and sequence enrollments.
Select an activity to inspect its results. For a bulk enrollment, this helps you
see which people enrolled and which were skipped or failed.

## Use MCP or the API

Use the [MCP connector](/developers/mcp/getting-started) to work with lists from
an AI application. You can find a list, read its members, create or update a
list, and add or remove records. For example, ask the application to find your
Event accounts list and add a set of companies by domain. See the
[list tools](/developers/mcp/tools#lists) for the available operations.

Use the [Lists API](/developers/api/data/lists/overview) for a custom integration
or a recurring workflow. It supports list settings and membership, including
reading entries and adding or removing records. Both interfaces respect list
access; changes require manage access. Records must exist in Unify before they
can be added to a list through these interfaces. For bringing in new records,
follow [import data](/reference/lists/import-data).
